Motion Turns It On Press Quotes

Motion Turns It On have been practically bathed in love from reviewers. Here are a few things that’s being said about them.

The intricacies of jazz, the noodling of 70s-era progressive rock, and the walls-of-noise crescendos of modern instrumental indie rock.” – Houston Calling
Motion Turns It On’s schizophrenic, frenetic energy leaves you teetering precariously on the wall of sanity.” – Redefine Magazine
Nothing short of a controlled frenzy.” – Rock Midgets
The band has taken several steps forward in the development of its sound, bringing to it a new edge of urgency and violence barely hinted at previously.” – The Silent Ballet
It’s jazz-rock, it’s dance, it’s post-rock… It’s simply a joyous juggernaut that you’ll never want to run out of steam.” – [sic] Magazine
A furiously kinetic, punk-infused record replete with all sorts of jazz and math influences.” – Dryvetyme Onlyne
More than a great post-rock record.” – 29-95
An adventurous listen that aggressive prog rock fans will surely dig.” – Blogcritics
Some of the finest tape echo-heavy ADHD garage prog I’ve heard since Hella.” – The Decibel Tolls
Filled to the brim with mathy post-rock with sways of jazz and flecks of guttural punk rock fervor.” – Forest Gospel

Silent Ballet Review Motion Turns It On

The Silent Ballet once claimed that Motion Turns It On were throwing down the gauntlet for jazzy post-rockers everywhere. We believed it and made an accord with this blistering prog-laced trio – if they throw down the gauntlet, we’ll pick it up and slap the world in the face with it. Which brings us to Kaleidoscopic Equionox, MTIO’s new album, out Feb 16. The Silent Ballet just reviewed it and here’s what they had to say.

Motion Turns it On – Kaleidoscopic Equinox

Score: 8/10

thesilentballet.com

Houston-based Motion Turns it On showed us in 2008 with Live at the Southpaw just how creative and technically proficient its modus operandi is, and as if that wasn’t enough, now, with Kaleidoscopic Equinox, the band has taken several steps forward in the development of its sound, bringing to it a new edge of urgency and violence barely hinted at previously.

Blurt Magazine Profiles The Houston Brothers

www.blurt-online.com/features/view/535/

The music magazine that once was known as Harp, recently posted a very extensive profile of The Houston Brothers, chronicling their early-2000s start as a two-piece, their early albums, their full band lineup in the late 2000s and their recent return to the duo format with their new album, The Archer. It’s an engaging read, having been written by John Schacht, editor of Shuffle Magazine and former editor of Creative Loafing Charlotte.

If you’d like to know the complete history of Justin and Matt Faircloth, AKA The Houston Brothers, then you should head over and give it a read.

Houston Brothers Featured on Utne January Music Sampler

“Wasted Youth,” the first track off The Houston Brothers‘ upcoming album, The Archer is being featured on Utne Reader’s January Music Sampler. Utne Reader is a fantastic bimonthly periodical with strong ties to the 1980s “salon movement,” debating topics such as politics, social and cultural themes of the day. Head over and download the track and check out some of their insightful articles as well.

The Houston Brothers – The Archer (Pre-sale)

We just can’t sit on these amazing albums any longer! Even though the official release date is January 26, we’re offering the new Houston Brothers album, The Archer for download now. The caveat: it’s only available as a full album (no single tracks) and in 16-bit WAV format. So it’s CD quality, which is awesome.

iTunes LPs In The Works

After our little media hubbub with Apple over iTunes LPs and the (apparently) bum scoop that we received about not being able to offer iTunes LPs as an indie, Apple came out and said that it was false and LPs would be open to everyone soon. Great news! That day finally came about a week ago and Apple started giving out instructions and code samples. That first day we had a working prototype iTunes LP and soon many of our new releases will be offered in the multimedia format. Though for the foreseeable future, iTunes has to approve them, so let’s hope they don’t hold a grudge.

The first iTunes LP will be for The Houston Brothers’ album, The Archer which releases on Jan 26.
